The Giver is a character from The Giver, and one of the main characters, aside from Jonas.
The Giver
The Giver was introduced in the first book "The Giver". He appeared when Jonas has been selected as the Reciever of Memory at the Ceromony of Twelve. The next day, Jonas goes to the Annex room, a building behind the House of the Old, and meets with him to start his training.
Unlike Rosemary, Jonas was given happy and joyful memories at first; riding on a sled, with runners, down a snowy hill. The Giver encouraged him to ask questions about anything, even when the question was related to something personal.
The Giver played a major role in helping Jonas escape from the Community and promised to spread the memories to everyone. Jonas asked what will happen afterwards, and The Giver replied that "he will be with his daughter".
Difficult Times
The Giver went through hardships, which he tells Jonas near the end of the book.
The Giver's daughter, Rosemary, was supposed to be the new Reciever of Memory, when Jonas was just a Two. It had failed miserably. He was devastated to hear that Rosemary applied for release. He told Jonas about Rosemary releasing herself, mentioning that he could not watch it when it happened.
Appearance
The Giver has blue pale eyes , appears old, and has gray hair. He is younger than he appears.

Relationships
Jonas- His relationship is first a mentorship but grows into more of a grandpa-grandson relationship.
Rosemary- The Giver's own daughter who was released on her own accord since she could not handle the memories
